Pvt. Jack D. Moore, 23, was buried in ceremonies in Leesville. The Eunice High graduate and son of A.J. Moore and the late Mrs. Moore of Eunice was killed in action in Korea on June 8. He was an outstanding athlete at Eunice High and at Northwestern Louisiana, where he graduated in August 1952. He is the third Eunice man lost in the current conflict.

A dynamite blast destroyed the car of a Mamou employee of the strike-bound Elizabeth paper mill. Edward Brignac’s Ford was parked in front of his house when the nighttime explosion rocked the neighborhood.

Among youngsters enjoying the youth center at the Southwest Louisiana Fair grounds were Roger Cavaness and Claude Moody, Jr., who engaged in a checkers game, with John Carroll Smithey, Buzz Bradley, Silton Fruge and Steven Collier waiting to take winners.

Majorettes from Eunice and St. Edmund High Schools attended a twirling school at McNeese College. Attending were Frances Sittig, Becky Brown, Kathleen Randel, Mercedes Prudhomme, Jackie Bergeron, Becky Fruge, Judy Brown, Judy Frey, Bonnie Courville and Francis Miller.

Dedication of the new Little League baseball park on the Southwest Louisiana Fair grounds will be held this month. The facility is lighted, meaning day games will no longer be necessary.

The city plans to double the size of its police force, from five officers to 10, and put a stop to rampant speeding in the city.

The City Council approved a $240,000 city budget for the next 12 months. It also annexed the L.C. Amy and Gourney Memorial additions.

Floyd Ellis and Charles Frey spent 16 hours on a Friday night and Saturday morning wandering through the woods near Pine Prairie after getting lost while frog hunting. The two Eunice men walked about 35 miles during their wandering, never finding the spot they planned to reach. They work at the bulk gas plant on Magnolia Street.

The state crackdown on gambling had immediate effects in Eunice, where all slot machines were removed and card games shut down.
