The New Era Publishing Company has received its charter from the state. Authorized capital stock is 250 shares at $100 per share. The board consists of M.V. Strother, Howard D. Strother and J.W. Fuselier.

Frances Atteberry is valedictorian of the Eunice High Class of 1928. Samuel Charlton will be salutatorian. There are 32 class members.

Berkman Ardoin is having a modern bungalow erected on the corner of Park and 5th. The six-room structure will cost about $2,500, furnished.

Fire destroyed the Southern Pacific rail bridge near the intersection with the Texas and Pacific tracks in the northern part of the city.

Considerable moonshine paraphernalia, mash and “licker” were found as federal prohibition agents raided stills in St. Landry Parish, according to Capt. J.B. Edwards.

A meeting will be held next month in Baton Rouge to discuss finishing of Hwy. 7 connecting Deweyville, Texas with New Orleans, via Eunice and other cities.

Mayor Wyble said the city will purchase from Dr. Z.T. Young of New Orleans property on Maple Avenue on which it will build sufficient sheds to store all implements belonging to the city, proper pound pens and fencing. Price is $350.

Eunice Motor Car Co. is constructing a building at Second & Laurel. Herman Duncan is architect and McGee and Keller are contractors.

More than 15,000 attended the inauguration of Huey P. Long as governor. The 34-year-old is the nation’s youngest governor.
