Lance Cpl. James Donald Feucht, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Etienne Feucht, has been killed in action near Da Nang, South Vietnam. He was a graduate of St. Edmund High and attended Northeast in Monroe.
A rifle bullet ricochetted off the helmet of Corp. Miguel Pousson in Vietnam in March. He was slightly dazed by the near-miss shot in the night ambush and is now assigned to Yuma, Ariz.
Mr. and Mrs. Curley Reed of North 12th Street are happy to have their two sons - Jeffery and Donald -- home after completing U.S. Army enlistments.
Louisiana State University officials welcomed visitors to an open house on the school’s new Eunice campus. Tours were taken of the $1 million Science Building and the LeDoux Library. LSU Eunice has 300 freshmen students.
Voters rejected 373-224 a 2.5 mill property tax for operation and maintenance of a city recreation program. Mayor Bubba Picou said the decision will cause a reevaluation of recreation plans.
Eunice News paperboys Donald Hatler, 13, and Kenneth Smith, Jr., 14, were killed when Hatler’s new motorbike was struck as they made early morning deliveries by a vehicle driven erratically and at a high rate of speed by a 27-year-old Eunice woman.
Mrs. T.L. Milner is the new librarian at the Eunice Public Library.
The city has put dirt in place to raise the level of No. 3 fairway and the area around No. 3 green at the city golf course.
Tri-Parish Bank has opened a new branch at College Road and West Maple. John H. DeJean is manager.
L.M. Reed said a contract has been awarded for construction of a new nursing home next door to Dr. Bernard Fruge’s office near Moosa Memorial.
A second nursing home is being constructed at Rose and Charmaine streets. It will be Heritage Manor.
New officers have been elected by the Charles Drew FHA chapter. They are Sheila Loeb, president; Sharon Webb, vice president; Lee Anna Leday, secretary; and Iantha Johnson, treasurer.
The downtown shopping mall is officially open following ceremonies featuring an address by U.S. Rep. Edwin Edwards.
Chuck Odom, a senior from Eunice, has been put in the starting lineup as right tackle for the University of Houston Cougars football team.
Graduating Basile senior Joseph D. Elfert, Jr., has won appointment to the U.S. Military at West Point, N.Y.
