Eunice Superette will celebrate two openings Monday — the reopening of its original location on the Iota Highway and the soft opening of its new location on Laurel Avenue.
A fire broke out in the smokehouse of the Eunice-Iota Highway location shortly after 9 a.m. Monday. The Eunice Fire Department, several St. Landry and Acadia parish fire districts as well as the Eunice Police Department and City Marshal’s Office responded to the incident.
There were about 15 people in the building when the fire broke out. Willie Burson, Eunice Superette vice president, said everyone got out OK.
“Just the smokehouse was damaged by fire,” Burson said. “There is also some smoke damage and some wiring damage in the boudin making area.”
Burson said he is still waiting on the final report on what caused the fire, and he added that the smokehouse will have to be rebuilt.
The new retail location on Laurel Avenue will open at 6 a.m. Monday, and the grand opening of the location will be celebrated some time after the Easter. The original location will now serve as a processing facility only.
