Habetz given Bishop’s Medal of Honor

When Charles Hebetz attended Mass on Father’s Day at St. Leo IV Catholic Church in Roberts Cove, he didn’t expect to be singled out for special recognition by the pastor, the Rev. Paul Broussard.
Broussard drew out the announcement slowly that Bishop Michael Jarrell was bestowing the Bishop’s Medal and Certificate –– the first granted to a parishioner since 1980.
He heightened the drama by delaying the recipient’s name to the last moment.
In his letter, Bishop Michael Jarrell of the Diocese of Lafayette praised the lifelong parishioner as “a man of many talents and abilities which you have put to use for the good of the Church Parish.”
The bishop commended Habetz as a faithful member of the Holy Name Society, his many years as a member of the Church Parish Council and the Parish Cemetery Board and his management of “all maintenance affairs and ground concerns for the Church Parish which you accomplish with excellence and promptness.”
Jarrell noted, “As a faithful member of Saint Leo IV Roman Catholic Church Parish, you have boundlessly illustrated the qualities needed for a Church Parish to operate efficiently and successfully.”
The medal was recommended by Broussard, who added his blessing and congratulations.
Habetz and his wife, Kay, are the parents of three children, Chuck Habetz, Annette Rosinki and Jason Habetz, who were present for the award ceremony, along with many other relatives.
