Iota fire district gets $224,000 Homeland Security award
U.S. Sen. David Vitter (R-La.) today announced that the U. S. Department of Homeland Security's Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program will award a total of $553,696 to the New Orleans and Plaucheville Volunteer Fire Departments and to Iota Fire Protection District of Acadia Parish to improve the quality of the area’s operations and safety.
“Local firefighters’ hard work to protect families throughout Louisiana cannot be undervalued. Ensuring safety for all people in Louisiana continues to be a top responsibility,” Vitter said.
The funds from these grants will be used to improve the safety of the public and first-responder personnel. This grant will fund professional training programs, critical equipment, improvements to facilities, and other firefighting supplies.
The New Orleans Fire Department will receive $276,525. The Plaucheville Volunteer Fire Department will receive $52,638. The Iota Fire Protection District of Acadia Parish will receive $224,533.
