Juveniles arrested in bomb hoax — captured green-handed
Three Eunice juveniles were captured green-handed in a bomb hoax Sunday evening.
The incident started about 8 p.m. when a caller reported a small suitcase with drugs written on it in the middle of the road at Jelks and Maple.
Eunice Police Randy Fontenot said the call came from a passerby.
An officer arrived and found the box painted green with “drug” written on it and a wire running from the box to a microphone, he said.
The area was blocked off and the firefighters were called to the scene.
Investigators discovered the wire coming from the box was not attached to anything and when they opened the case “Prank” and “Boom” were painted on the inside.
As police searched they turned a light on to a darkened house and saw three eyes and then found the juveniles, ages 13, 14 and 16.
The clincher for police was they found green spray paint on the fingers of the juveniles.
But officers found that a house had been burglarized. An air conditioner had been pulled to the ground and small items were taken from the house.
The juveniles were released to their parents.
They face charges fake explosive device, simple burglary and theft.
Fontenot said the theft charge will likely be dropped.
