Moreau’s Acadia Parish residency challenge settled

By Steve Bandy Crowley Post-Signal

A lawsuit aimed at disqualifying one of two candidates for the Distrct 8 seat on the Acadia Parish Police Jury was dismissed.
The lawsuit filed by Gibson Miller challenged the residency of Felton “Tony” Moreau, who is running against incumbent Robert Guidry in the Oct. 24 election.
In qualifying for the race, Moreau listed his address as 1328 Chinaberry Drive in Eunice.
In his lawsuit, Gibson acknowledges that 1328 Chinaberry Drive is, in fact, located within the boundaries of Acadia Parish Police Jury District 8, but he contends that “defendant Moreau is not domiciled at such address.”
The matter was brought before 15th Judicial District Judge John Trahan Sept. 22.
Representing Moreau, attorney Nicholas Bellard presented copies of water and electric bills along with a copy of Moreau’s truck registration and his 2014 state income tax forms, each listing the Chinaberry Drive address.
Evidence presented by Miller’s attorney, Michael Holmes, was not enough to convince the court that Moreau’s domicile is not the Chinaberry Drive address.
Trahan ruled that Miller’s “challenge to Mr. Moreau’s candidacy is dismissed at (Miller’s) cost.”
