Annual Back to School program set Aug. 6
The Parents Outreach Club, Black Men Make a Difference and NAUW will sponsor its annual Back To School program at the Southeast Center on Saturday, Aug. 6 beginning at 10 a.m.
City judge Terry Hoychick will be the motivational speaker at the program. School supplies, school uniforms, and a snack will be given to students grades Pre-k to 12th grade. Some supplies will also be available for college bound students.
Parents are require to assist their children.

Free school back packs giveaway Saturday
Verizon Wireless will give away free school back packs Saturday from noon until 3 p.m.
The business is located at 1608 Hwy. 190 in same location as Dollar Tree.
Every child will receive a free back pack.

Coffee with a Cop Saturday
A meet and greet, Coffee with a Cop, is scheduled from 7 to 9 a.m. July 30 at the McDonald’s restaurant in Eunice.
Free coffee will be served in the lobby.

CFMA Acadiana Chapter scholarship
The CFMA (Cajun French Music Association) Acadiana Charter Chapter will award a $500 scholarship beginning with fall 2016 semester, $250 per semester.
Applicants need to write a 500 word essay telling us why they should be awarded a scholarship and tell us what they know about the Cajun culture and why it is important to keep the present generation involved in our culture. A transcript of grades from last school attend and proof of enrollment for the fall semester needs to be included.
Deadline to apply is Aug. 1.
Information can be mailed to CFMA, P.O. Box 1427, Eunice, LA 70535 or brought to the Aug. meeting on Aug. 1 at the Northwest Community Center in Eunice.
Individuals already attending college are eligible. You do not have to be a recent high school graduate.

United Way ‘Stuff The Bus’ in Eunice Aug. 1-5
The St. Landry-Evangeline United Way will sponsor ‘Stuff The Bus’ school supply drive in Eunice.
There will be a drop-off boxes for school supplies at St. Landry Homestead and Whitney Bank in Eunice from Aug. 1 until Aug. 5.
Donations of supplies of backpacks, crayons, folders, pencils, pens, markers, protractors, book covers, paper towels, notebooks, hand sanitizer, copy paper, tape, scissors, stickers, kleenex, rulers, glue sticks and more will be accepted. Cash donations, Walmart gift card will also be accepted.
Items collected in Eunice will stay in Eunice.

57th Charlene Richard Mass set Aug. 5
The 57th Charlene Richard Anniversary Mass will be held on Aug. 5 at St. Edward Church in Richard with the Reverend Hampton Davis officiating.
A rosary will be recited at 5:30 p.m. with Mass beginning at 6 p.m.
Immediately following Mass there will be a reception in the hall.

Community Garden open hour suspended
The Eunice Community Garden’s open hour on Tuesday has been suspended until milder weather arrives, Patricia Brown, interim garden coordinator, said.

Changes in Farmer’s Market schedule
The Eunice Farmers’ Market last day for Wednesday afternoons, 1 to 5 p.m., will be Aug. 3.
Saturday morning market will continue from 9 a.m. until noon until last Saturday before Thanksgiving, weather permitting.
A variety of home-made items and fresh produce will be available.

COA Miles-for-Meals fundraiser Sept. 10
The St. Landry Council on Aging will have its 14th annual Miles-for-Meals walk-a-thon fundraiser on Saturday, Sept. 10 with registration from 9 a.m. until 9:30 a.m.
The walk-a-thon will be held at South City Park in Opelousas with opening program from 9:30 until 10 a.m.
Awards will be given at noon. Pledges are being accepted. For those who pledge $20 or more will receive a Free T-shirt. All proceeds will toward Miles-for Meals.

Saturday program at the Prairie Acadian Cultural Center
Saturday programs at the Prairie Acadian Cultural Center, 250 W. Park Ave., Eunice, are the Explore & Restore craft workshop for kids, from 10 a.m. to noon; Cajun Conversations meets 1 to 2:30 p.m. to learn and practice conversational Cajun French; Music and dancing kicks off at 2:45 p.m. and ends with the cooking demonstration and sampling at 4 p.m. Admission to the center and programs is free.

Annual male chorus musical set Aug. 20
The Greater True Light Baptist Church in Eunice will have its 15th annual male chorus musical at 6 p.m. Aug. 20. On Aug. 21 during the church’s 8:30 a.m. service there will be an annual Men’s Day service with the Rev. Caleb Semien of Word Ministries as the guest speaker.
The public is invited to attend. The church is located at 341 Anne St. in Eunice.

VFW bingo held Thursdays, Sundays
The VFW Post 8971 holds bingo for the public at 7 p.m. every Thursday and Sunday at the VFW Hall located on U.S. 190 East. All proceeds from Bingo games goes back to the community.
