Old Glory Relay headed to Eunice

The Old Glory Relay, a fundraiser for Team Red White Blue veterans’ outreach, is scheduled to arrive Tuesday at the Eunice VFW on U.S. 190.
The relay involves 62 teams running an American flag from Seattle, Washington, to Tampa, Florida. The relay began Sept. 11 and is to end in Tampa on Veterans Day, Nov. 11.
Team RWB is a national non-profit with a mission of connecting veterans to their community through physical and social activity.
St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz, in a news release, said the relay and flag will run along U.S. 190 from Kinder to Port Barre on Tuesday.
“This event serves a dual purpose: to honor the sacrifice of thousands of Americans who have fought for our freedom, and to make a public display of support for veterans as they return to their respective communities, Guidroz said.
The 15 runners will be from the Shreveport-Bossier chapter of Team RWB.
The team will cross the St. Landry Parish line at about 10:30 a.m. and will stop at the VFW for news outlets, Guidroz said.
The runners are expected to arrive in Eunice by about 11 a.m.
People are encouraged to greet the relay as it travels through the city.
The team member carrying the flag will continue to run and will not stop, he said.
The next scheduled stop will be at the rest area in Port Barre where the team will stop for the night. The next morning beginning at daylight, the next team will begin their route to Baton Rouge.
Team RWB chapters in Louisiana include Shreveport-Bossier, Lafayette, Fort Polk/Alexandria, Baton Rouge, Covington/Mandeville, and New Orleans.
