Sales tax collections down 2%

Sales tax collections dropped about 2 percent in Eunice and St. Landry Parish through March compared to same period a year, according to a report by the St. Landry Parish School Board Sales Tax Division.
Eunice sales tax collections totaled $1,344,955 from January through March, down $30,529 from the same period in 2015.
St. Landry Parish total sales tax collections were $15,998,241 through March, down $350,665 from the same period a year ago.
Eunice sales tax collections in March were $409,281. The February collections were $389,707 and in January they were $576,495.
The parish March collections were $4,790,528. In February, collections were $4,619,939 and in January they were $6,587,776.
The parish sales tax total includes parish, school, solid waste, law enforcement and municipal taxes.
The sales tax rate in Eunice is 9.75 percent. Of that 4 percent is state, 3.55 percent is parish and 2.2 percent is city.
Unincorporated areas pay a 9.5 percent sales tax revenue, which includes 4 percent state and 5.5 percent parish rates.
On April 1, the state sales tax rate rose by 1 percent.
