SLEMCO prepared for potential hurricane

Although Storm 99L is currently predicted to strengthen and make landfall well to the east of Louisiana, SLEMCO has made preparations should the forecasted path change and project a landfall further toward the Louisiana coastline.
“Early preparations have been made with contractors, suppliers and personnel to ensure we will be able to mobilize immediately, should the storm track further westward,” said SLEMCO Communications Manager Mary Laurent. “We are watching the storm track closely, particularly because of all the recent flooding,” Laurent continued. “If it changes course and heads our way, we want to make sure we are able to do all we can to restore power as quickly as possible to all areas, but especially those that have already been hit hard by flood waters in the last two weeks.”
SLEMCO is urging all customers to make plans and be prepared.
“We are now in peak hurricane season,” said Laurent. “Everyone should be checking supplies, making a plan and knowing where they will evacuate to, should the need arise. An evacuation plan is particularly important for those who have medical conditions and who may rely on power for medical equipment. We will restore power as quickly and safely as possible, but more rainfall, combined with hurricane force winds could slow down that process.”
SLEMCO provides power to over 107,000 customers in Acadia, Avoyelles, Evangeline, Iberia, Lafayette, St. Landry, St. Martin and Vermilion parishes.
