SLEMCO warns members of phone scam about deposit

SLEMCO is warning members not to pay money to fake company officials.
Some SLEMCO members have received calls demanding a $500 deposit for the installation of a new “Smart” meter or they will be disconnected, a news release from SLEMCO stated.
The scammers sound official, giving an employee name and truck number. They are not real SLEMCO employees.
“SLEMCO does not call consumers requesting payments,” explains CEO and General Manager Glenn Tamporello. “All of our bills and other communications concerning payments or amounts owed are sent through the U.S. Postal Service.”
Should SLEMCO members have any questions concerning their bills or anything else related to their electric service they should call our main office at 337-896-5384.
