St. Edmund scholarships value more than half million dollars
St. Edmund High held its Awards Night honoring and recognizing its seniors with outstanding,and distinquished awards and scholarships. St. Edmund Catholic School held its annual Class Night Ceremony for its 2014 graduating class Thursday evening May 15 inside the high school gymnasium.
Many academic awards, recognitions, scholarships, and special distinquishment awards were given to seniors.
Recognition of Honor Graduates earning an overall Weighted/Honors GPA of 3.5 and above were: Valedictorian Jada Fontenot, Salutatorian Margaret Vidrine, Madelyn Andrus, Samantha Bertrand, Macey Comeaux, Savannah D’Aubin, Constance Fontenot, Katie Fuselier, Mollie-Claire Heinen, Christian McFarlain, Henri Miller, Courtney Phillips, Claire Quirk, Aimee Soileau and Quinten Swann
United Blood Services Red Cord Program: Blood Heroes Graduating With Honors is designed to recognize students that help their community by donating blood during their senior year. Any student who donates blood twice within their senior year is eligible to receive a red cord.
United Blood Services presented the following students with a red cord: Kyle Dupre, Constance Fontenot, Kaylen Guillory, Mollie-Claire Heinen, Courtney Phillips, Shelby Savoy, and Margaret Vidrine.
The following students were recognized by St. Edmund High School for scoring a 22 or higher on the ACT: Macey Comeaux, Savannah D’Aubin, Constance Fontenot, Jada Fontenot, Mollie-Claire Heinen, Christian McFarlain, Henri Miller, Aimee Soileau, Quinten Swann, and Margaret Vidrine.
The Rev. Dustin Dought presented the Campus Apostolate Plaque of Recognition to Jada Fontenot in recognition of her leadership as Campus Apostolate Team President.
Macey Comeaux received a National Honor Society Aaward plaque for her leadership role as president of the National Honor Society.
Students were presented medals of recognition for having earned the highest cumulative average in different subject areas.
Mollie-Claire Heinen - French - and Jada Fontenot - English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and Spanish.
The Sister Mary Andrepont Mouton Religion Awards is an award given to students who have demonstrated and upheld the Christian values of faith. The recipients were Samantha Bertrand and Christian Walker.
District Literary Rally and State Literary Rally awards were presented to seniors.
In the District Literary Rally, first-place winners received a $50 per year LSU Eunice scholarship and a certificate of appreciation. Second and third- place winners received a certificate of appreciation. The 2014 District Literary Rally Winners were: Madelyn Andrus-2nd Place Advanced Math Pre-Calculus, Phillip Zaunbrecher-2nd Place Advanced Math Functions & Statistics, Jada Fontenot-1st Place English IV, Lauren Fuselier-1st Place BCA, Mollie-Claire Heinen-1st Place Journalism, Courtney Phillips-1st Place World History, Quinten Swann-1st Place Physics, Margaret Vidrine-1st Place Fine Arts Survey, and Christian Walker-1st Place Environmental Science.
In the State Literary Rally, students who placed 1st receive a gold medal, 2nd a silver medal, and 3rd a bronze medal.
2014 State Literary Rally winners included Mollie Claire Heinen-1st Place Journalism I, Margaret Vidrine-1st Place Fine Arts Survey.
The Amazing Grace Spirit Stick Award was first given at 1969 St. Edmund graduation. This year it and a $2,000 scholarship went to Margaret Vidrine.
The Rodney Edmund Landreneau Jr. MD Memoral Award went to Constance Fontenot.
The Woodman of the World American History Award is given to the student who has the highest grade point average in American History. This year’s recipients are Macey Comeaux, Savannah D’Aubin, Jada Fontenot and Claire Quirk.
The VFW Scholarship of $1,000 went to Margaret Vidrine.
The Eunice Jr. Auxiliary Scholarship of $250 was presented to Shelby Savoy.
The Bayou Des Cannes Glenn Mentel Scholarship of $800 went to Courtney Phillips.
The Sirius Technology Scholarships valued at $1,000 are given to two students who plan to major in the field of computers and technology or engineering. This year’s scholarships went to Henri Miller and Dray Veillon, who both plan to major in the field of engineering.
The St. Edmund Academic Booster Club scholarships in the amount of $250 each were given to Jada Fontenot as the Valedictorian and Margaret Vidrine as the Salutatorian of the Class of 2014.
The Eunice Kiwanis Club Scholarships in the amount of $250 each were presented to Courtney Phillips and Phillip Zaunbrecher.
The Eunice Mardi Gras Association’s Hannah Landreneau Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $150 went to Mayson Begnaud.
The Captain Jim Smith Award, a $200 cash award, given by John and Connie Baham went to Lauren Fuselier.
The Tri-Parish Bank of Eunice Awards are presented to Valedictorian Jada Fontenot in the amount of $150 and to Salutatorian Margaret Vidrine in the amount of $100.
The Jeff Davis Bank of Eunice scholarship in the amount of $400 was given to Aimee Soileau.
Rotary Club Scholarships in the amount of $500 to be used as a credit at the LSUE Bookstore went to Aimee Soileau and Christian Walker.
The Exquisite Imprints Early Learning Scholarship award in the amount of $100 was presented to to Savannah D’Aubin.
The Junior Champion John E. Jackson Showman Scholarship in the amount of $1,400 went to Phillip Zaunbrecher.
The Opelousas General Foundation Scholarship is a four-year full tuition scholarship. This year’s recipient is Shelby Savoy.
Dotty McDonald from LSU Eunice presented the scholarships, made possible through private donors and/or institutional funds.
Student Scholarships were awarded to: Madelyn Andrus- Golden Award Scholarship of $500, Macey Comeaux- Ray Croc Memorial Scholarship of $1,000, Savannah D’Aubin-Wesley Clanton Memorial Scholarship of $1,200, Jada Fontenot- Merit Honor Scholarship of $3,000, Christian McFarlain- Centennial Honor Scholarship of $3,000, Henri Miller-Centennial Honor Scholarship of $3,000 and an LSUE Honors Program Scholarship of $2,000 went to Claire Quirk.
Golden Award Scholarship of $500 went to Aimee Soileau; Centennial Honor Scholarship of $3,000 went to Quinten Swann and Swann received the LSUE Honors Program Scholarship of $2,000. Margaret Vidrine was awarded the Centennial Honor Scholarship of $3,000.
The University of Louisiana at Lafayette presented a a scholarship to Christian McFarlain, as he was the recipient of the ULL Academic Excellence Scholarship in the amount of $4,000.
Louisiana Tech University awarded scholarships to the following students:
Savannah D’Aubin-Outstanding Student Scholarship of $8,800, Constance Fontenot - Outstanding Student Scholarship of $12,000, Jada Fontenot-Outstanding Student Scholarship of $11,200, Henri Miller-Outstanding Student Scholarship of $12,000, Margaret Vidrine - Outstanding Student Scholarship of $12,000.
Northwestern State University presented scholarships to the following students: Claire Quirk-NSU Leadership Scholarship Award of $1,600 and Quinten Swann-NSU Boys State Scholarship.
McNeese State University presented scholarships to the following students:
Jada Fontenot - Academic & Residence Hall Scholarship of $9,200 and Phillip Zaunbrecher - McNeese Collegiate Award of $4,800.
The Aveda Institute awarded a tuition scholarship to Rebecca Reed in the amount of $500.
University of Louisiana Monroe presented scholarships to the following students: Madelyn Andrus-Aces Award Scholarship of $2,000, and Jada Fontenot-Academic Recognition Tier I Award of $20,000.
Xavier University presented a scholarship to Madelyn Andrus in the amount of $20,000.
The King’s College in New York presented a $60,000 Presidential scholarship to Henri Miller.
Southeastern Louisiana University presented a Southeastern Honor Scholarship & Housing scholarship award of $9,400 to Christian McFarlain.
Students who have earned a 2.5 TOPS grade point average in the TOPS Core Curriculum and scored at least 20 on the ACT are awarded the Tops Opportunity scholarship, which includes tuition. The following students are anticipated to receive this award: Madelyn Andrus, Samantha Bertrand, Macey Comeaux, Katie Fuselier, Lauren Fuselier, Courtney Phillips, Claire Quirk, Christian Walker, and Phillip Zaunbrecher
Students who have earned a 3.0 TOPS grade point average in the TOPS Core Curriculum and scored at least 23 on the ACT are awarded the Tops Performance scholarship. The following students are anticipated to receive this award: Savannah D’Aubin, Constance Fontenot, Jada Fontenot, Mollie-Claire Heinen, Christian McFarlain, Aimee Soileau and Margaret Vidrine.
Students who have earned a 3.0 TOPS grade point average in the TOPS Core Curriculum and scored at least 27 on the ACT are awarded the Tops Honors scholarship. The following students are anticipated to receive this award: Henri Miller and Quinten Swann.
The Total anticipated Tops Awards totaled $272,266.
The Beverly Wyble Memorial Award is given to a female student who has the highest academic average and participated in two sports and the Stanislaus Wyble Memorial Award, goes to a male student with the highest academic average and has participated in two sports.
This year, the Beverly Wyble Award goes to Jada Fontenot and the Stanislaus Wyble Award to Christian McFarlain.
The Shelby John Manuel Memorial Scholarship of $100 is awarded to a deserving senior by St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. This year’s recipient is Kaylen Guillory.
The American Legion Awards are given to students who exhibit and possess character, courage, scholarship, leadership and service. This year’s recipients are Madelyn Andrus and Christian McFarlain.
The Service Scholarship Awards in the amount of $200 each are given to young people who have served the St. Anthony Church community faithfully as altar servers from the fifth-grade through their senior year. The award recipients: Macey Comeaux, Jada Fontenot, Claire Quirk, Quinten Swann, and Margaret Vidrine.
The Distinguished Service Award is the most significant award a St. Edmund High School senior can receive. Sister Joel Miller, principal, added, “It is, in fact, the highest honor given by St. Edmund High School.
“The student is selected by the principal for having rendered four years of generous and humble assistance to St. Edmund High School.
The 2014 Distinguished Service Award recipient is Madelyn Andrus.
