Ward 1 Candidate enters race

The race for Eunice’s Ward 1 has a contender of one.
Jeremy Ortego, 28, said he has never sought public office. Ortgeo said that the main thing that influenced his decision was Ward 1 Councilman Roland Miller’s
announcing that he would not be seeking re-election.
“I think that Mr. Miller has done a fine job,” said Ortego.
“And I wasn’t sure who was going to step up for the position. I’ve thought for many years about getting into the political arena. And I just thought that this was the perfect time to do it.”
Ortego is a Eunice native who graduated Eunice High School in 2004. He also said that he graduated from the University of Louisiana-Lafayette in 2009.
Ortego said that he is a non-destructive testing technician for the Versa Integrity Group in Broussard.
He and his wife Francine have two daughters, Catherine, 4, and Natalie, 2, and are expecting their third child.
Qualifying for the seat will be in August.
