Well progress made, but detour, evacuation remain in effect

State Police reported today that gas is no longer leaking from a blown-out well south of Eunice, but that the scene remains unstable enough to require a continuing cordon around the area.
The well blew late last Tuesday afternoon, sending about 30 people from their homes and sealing off a La. 13 South from near Eunice to the Branch Highway (La. 370).
Initially, projects were that the well work would be done and the sealed perimeter lifted sometime over the weekend.
That timeline did not work out.
There is no revised estimate as to when the cordon will be lifted.
