Debit card scam hits Eunice

A scam involving debit cards has arrived in Eunice and already has cost one man about $7,500, Lt. Richard Daigle of the Eunice Police Department said.
The scam targets received a UPS envelop containing a debit card loaded with $500 to $1,000, he said. The receiver is instructed to activate the card, withdraw the money and then send a money order to an address with an offer to win a prize. The debit card will not be in the recipient’s name, he said. A phone number in the package is from Jamaica, he said. Daigle said several people have received the packages. He asks that anyone with such a package contact him at the Eunice Police Department at 337-457-2626. (Photo by Harlan Kirgan)
