Freshman Rep. Phillip DeVillier, R-Eunice, will be the commencement speaker when Louisiana State University Eunice holds fall graduation ceremonies at 10 a.m. Friday, in the gymnasium of the Health and Physical Education Building.
More than 190 students are candidates for graduation.

Higher education ‘super board’ bill stalls in committee

A bill that would consolidate all of the state’s higher education governing boards into one “super board” of trustees failed to pass out of the Senate Finance Committee Monday, and is likely dead for the session, after a lengthy debate and stark testimony from college and university leaders.

More than 15 years after the train derailment just west of Eunice, repercussions are still being felt in the community, but the accident’s most recent impact is a positive one — a math lab at LSUE.
