Police Jury to have public meeting on how to spend $8 million
The Vermilion Parish Police Jury decided on April 7 as the first meeting with the public to get ideas on how to spend close to $8 million from a Community Development Block Grant for those affected by Hurricane Ike.
The meeting will be held at the Abbeville library in the large meeting room. It will begin at 6 p.m.
The Police Jury will receive $4.6 million in a Community Block Grant to be used to assist in rebuilding the parish after the hurricane. There will be a second round of funding in the future that could be as high as $3.7 million.
The Police Jury is required to get input from the public on how the money should be spent. Some of the money could be spent on helping families elevate their homes, or buying out their homes or helping pay for levees along the coastline.
