Journalism professor, columnist
RUSTON – Arrangements are pending for Louisiana Tech journalism department chairman professor emeritus and long-time newspaper columnist Wiley W. Hilburn, Jr. He died Jan. 16 at age 75.
He started his journalism career as a sports writer for the Ruston Daily Leader at age 16. Later, he worked for various newspapers, including the Monroe News-Star and The Shreveport Times.
He was faculty adviser for the college student newspaper The Tech Talk. His former editors have achieved top management and editing positions at publications across the country.
He was author of three books and a member of the Louisiana Political Museum and Hall of Fame.
Survivors include his wife Kate and three children.
Arrangements are by Kilpatrick.
Dean of education
RAYVILLE – Services for former ULM dean of education Dr.T. Eugene Holtzcla will be Saturday. He died Jan. 15 at age 91.
He was supervisor of instruction for Richland Parish public schools before becoming a professor in ULM’s College of Education, which he served as dean for many years.
Survivors include a son.
Arrangements are by Mulhearn.
Civil Defense director
RAYNE – Services for Civil Defense director James Haure will be Friday. He died Jan. 15 at age 83.
He owned a machine shop and was Civil Defense director for the City of Rayne and for Acadia Parish..
Survivors include his wire Hilda, two sons and two daughters.
