Retired educator
NEW ORLEANS – Services for retired teacher and principal Sister Mary Hernandez, O. Carm. will be Thursday. She died March 17 at age 89.
She taught at Mt. Carmel schools in Abbeville, Carencro, Lafayette, and Rayne for almost 30 years. She also served as principal at Our Lady of Prompt Succor in Westwego.
Survivors include a brother and a sister.

Former McNeese prof
HORNBECK – Services will be Saturday for former McNeese State University professor Dr. Walter Hughes. He died March 13 at age 82.
He was a professor in the Department of Psychology as well as holding various administrative posts at McNeese for more than 20 years. He was an administrator at Sowella Technical Community College for 19 years.
Survivors include his wife Jeanette and two daughters.
