School class year will begin Aug. 13
Barring an unexpected change, classes for the 2014-15 school year in St. Landry Parish public schools will begin on Wednesday, Aug. 13.
The last day of classes will be Wednesday, May 27, 2015.
Those are the starting and ending dates included in two calendar options that were voted on by school personnel last week.
The results of the preference voting will be presented at Thursday’s School Board meeting.
There is just a minimum difference in the two calendar options.
Claudia Blanchard explained to the board’s Executive Committee that fixed dates of various accountability testing in the spring narrows the range of options.
As it is, school will resume after the Easter break just one day before LEAP testing begins.
Both options retain the now-traditional Easter break beginning at the end of classes on Maundy Thursday, April 2, 2015 and re-opening on Monday, April 13.
While Blanchard said the subject was broached, she also said there was no serious consideration to altering the Easter break schedule.
The essential difference between the two calendars offered employees is when to scheduled a professional day
One option tags it on the end of the Martin Luther King holiday, scheduling the professional day for Tuesday, Jan. 20.
The other option moves the day to Wednesday, Jan. 28, providing for early dismissal of classes that day
Classes would end Dec. 19 for Christmas-New Year’s break and resume on Jan. 5
Graduation night would be May 22, 2015.
