Marksville City Councilman Elliot Jordan and his wife, Brenda Jordan, were arrested by Marksville police after a disturbance on Martin Luther King Drive.
Police said they were among five people, all from Marksville, who were arrested and charged with aggravated battery on Friday night.
The disturbance was not a case of domestic violence, City Police Chief Elster Smith told The Weekly News on Monday.
He also said the matter is still under investigation and so releasable information was limited. The chief confirmed Jordan was arrested along with four others and that no guns were involved. He refused to comment when asked if other weapons, such as knives, may have been involved in the incident.
All five suspects were charged with aggravated battery and four of the five, including the Jordans, were charged with simple battery.
.. Smith said the incident occurred at 4:49 p.m. last Friday on MLK Drive. He would not give a specific address and could not estimate how long officers were on the scene. The chief would not discuss how the fight allegedly started or the various role each of the five suspects played in the altercation.
All five were released on their own recognizance under a $2,500 bond ordered by Ward II Judge Angelo Piazza.
