Man pulls taser in dispute over theater texting, allegedly threatens to get gun
On April 5, 2014, at approximately 4:30 pm, Lafayette Police responded to the movie theater in the 2300 block of Kaliste Saloom Road regarding a disturbance in an auditorium. According to witnesses, a male patron approached a female in the auditorium and requested that she stop texting. Her male companion, Hunter Branam, 19, of Broussard immediately stood up and engaged in a verbal altercation.
Witnesses stated that Branam produced a taser and activated it in the auditorium during the disturbance. Branam then allegedly made the statement, “I’m going get my gun” and left the auditorium.
Many of the patrons fled and notified the management, who in turn contacted police.
Branam was taken into custody without incident at the theater. The taser was located in one of the bathrooms. Police did not locate a firearm.
Branam was arrested and charged with Disturbing the Peace and Terrorizing.
