Protect plants -- forecasters warn of possible freeze
Accepted advice is you shouldn’t plant in the Spring before Good Friday. But this year, that’s quite late and many planted sooner. Maybe they should have waited.
Weather forecasters say low temperatures Tuesday night-Wednesday morning are going to approach freezing.
If the mercury gets to 32 degrees many tender plants already in the ground are going to be in harm’s way unless covered by some sort of protective material.
Before the cold air gets here there’s going to be some turbulent weather.
A steady flow of southerly breeze has loaded the atmosphere with warm, moist air and the approaching cold front’s class with it will lead to the chance of thunderstorms, hail and gusty winds this afternoon and early tonight.
By daybreak Tuesday, forecasters say, the temperature will be around 40 degrees with a ferocious wind from the north. The high Tuesday is not expected to be much above the upper 50s.
By Good Friday, highs will be in the 70s and lows in the 50s -- nice planting weather.
