Cell biologist, educator
NEW ORLEANS – Services will be Saturday for internationally recognized cell biologist and historian of science and medicine Dr. Frederick Kasten. He died April 14 at age 87.
He was the first American scientist to do long-term research behind the Iron Curtain and was retired from LSU Medical School, where he was cell biology professor for almost 30 years. At his death he was an adjunct professor at East Tennessee State University College of Medicine.
He was previously on the faculties at a number of universities, including Texas A&M and Alexandria, Egypt University.
Survivors include his wife Marie and three sons.
Insurance agent
MINDEN – Services will be April 26 in Baton Rouge for insurance agent Wayne Crawford. He died April 14 at age 85.
He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He co-founded the Holland-Crawford Insurance Agency, when he managed until 2012.
Survivors include his wife Bettye and three children.
