Eunice tax re-distribution approved; school taxes renewed
Eunice residents bothering to go to the polls on Saturday approved a re-distribution proposal for sales tax revenue which funds capitol outlay projects.
And St. Landry Parish voters renewed two property taxes, keeping about $9 million revenue in play for employee salaries and general system operation.
Eunice officials asked voters to allow them to use up to 10 percent of the sales tax income to cover General Fund expenses in the case of an extraordinary emergency, such as hurricane damage recovery.
Neither a tax hike or a new tax was involved in the request, approved by 273 voters, as compared to 88 who said no. There are about 6,000 registered voters in the city.
The school taxes passed with about 80 percent of the vote each.
One is an 11.78 mill tax which provides pay dollars; the other is a 4.37 mill levy for general operation and maintenance.
