A year later, no arrest in killing of Eunice man at Branch crossroads
It’s been almost a year since D’Andre Goodley, 18, of Eunice was killed in a trail ride-related shooting at Branch, and no one has yet been charged. Meanwhile, a Eunice resident charged in the pistol whipping of a man at the same scene has had charges against him dismissed.
Emerick St. Andre’, 22, was charged by Acadia Parish with aggravated second-degree battery after he allegedly beat Manuel Thomas about the face and head with a handgun.
The two were among a group of people involved in the altercation at Branch on May 19, 2013, one that apparently stemmed from an earlier incident that took place during the ride.
A hearing in St. Andre’s case was cancelled when the state advised the court that the case had been dismissed. No reason was provided.
Earlier, St. Andre’’s attorney had filed motions asserting police had seized items from St. Andre’’s home without a proper warrant.
Whether one development was related to the other is not known.
A hearing was never held on the motions. Subpoenaed to testify at the hearing were Donovan Reed, Yurondrick Allison, Keenan Skinner, Shelton Guillory and Laron Perrodin, all of Eunice.
St. Andre’’s rap sheet goes back to 2009, when he led Eunice officers on a chase before being apprehended and charged with various counts, including possession of cocaine.
He had two narcotics arrests in 2010 and another distribution charge in April 2011.
In October of 2011, he allegedly stabbed a man while two others held the victim up against a car, stabbing him in the face, back and torso.
While the Acadia charges against St. Andre’ have been dismissed, none have been filed in Goodley’s death.
He and two others were shot during the confrontation.
The case remains open. At one point, sources said investigators had information that an unidentified woman grabbed a gun and started shooting during the melee. Whether that assertion panned out is not known.
