Girl steals mom's car to go to party, wrecks, walks with pals to party

Three 14-year-old Eunice girls are charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle and curfew violation after sneaking off to a party in Basile late Thursday night.
Police records indicate that the mother of one of the girls awakened Friday morning to find both her vehicle and her daughter missing. It didn’t take long to locate both.
According to police, the daughter and two friends headed to Basile after the daughter boosted the car.
They didn’t make their destination in the car because the underage driver drove it into a ditch.
But the girls did manage to get to the party, though it was quite late when they arrived on foot.
As the night wore on, two of the girls decided to head home, while the third remained at the party or its remnants.
The two walkers were apprehended by a passing patrol car.
Later Friday morning, police had all three in custody at the Eunice station and parents on hand for interrogation and booking.
The driver was released to her mother.
The other two, on probation from previous cases, were sent to a nearby juvenile offender facility.
All three will appear in Eunice Juvenile Court at some point.
Juveniles’ names are not public record under Louisiana law.
