Four charged; 'Deuce' still loose

A bicycle drive-by shooting sparked by an alleged domestic incident involving a gun has resulted in attempted murder charges against a Eunice man and related charges against three others. A fifth suspect in the matter remains at large.
The case unfolded late Wednesday night, when a Eula Street resident reported shots had been fired at his house in the 200 block.
Responding officers found shell casings in the street and a bullet hole in a window. The bullet just missed the man in the house, according to records.
Detectives working the mater learned from Joshua Miller, 17, who was in the area at the time, that it was his .40 caliber pistol involved.
He allegedly told investigators he loaned the firearm to Christopher Ashworth, 33, to “light the house up.”
(Ashworth may be familiar to some Eunice residents more by sight than name. He regularly bikes around town with a blue bandanna around his neck.)
After allegedly trying to murder the Eula Street resident, Ashworth gave the gun to Johnathon Arabie, 24, and told him to get rid of it.
Police allege that Arabie was aware of Ashworth’s alleged drive-by intentions prior to it happening.
Arabie went to a wooded area near the Northwest Pavilion and discarded the gun.
But the next day he allegedly thought better of that plan and went back to get the gun with intentions of selling it.
He went to a girlfriend’s house, Victoria Alfred, 27, who lives just down the street from the intended drive-by target and she located an individual known as “Deuce” and sold him the gun for $100.
Investigators were able to contact Deuce and though he would not tell them where he was he agreed to ditch the gun near the old Dresser Building, where detectives subsequently located it. Deuce, true name unknown remains at large.
Detectives said the motive of Ashworth’s alleged actions was supposed his sister’s ex-boyfriend (the Eula Street target) had pulled a gun on Ashworth’s mother and other family members.
Charges in the case are:
Ashworth, 1630 West Vine: attempted 1st-degree murder, unlawful carrying of a weapon by a felon, possession of a stolen firearm, simple criminal damage to property and obstruction of justice.
Miller, 130 Boudreaux: principal to attempted 1st-degree murder, obstruction of justice, illegal possession of stolen firearm and illegal supplying a felon with a firearm.
Arabie, 1046 Pelican Loop: Accessory after the fact to attempted 1st-degree murder, illegal possession of a stolen firearm, obstruction of justice.
Alfred, 441 Eula: Accessory after the fact to attempted 1st-degree murder, obstruction of justice.
