Homeowner thankful family escaped blaze

Jordon Alexander surveys the charred remains and rubble Tuesday of what was his family home before a Monday afternoon fire.

Jordon Alexander, wearing some of the only clothes he had left, was dismayed Tuesday at his loss, but nevertheless grateful that no one was hurt in the fire that destroyed his family home Monday afternoon.
Alexander was at his off-shore job when alerted about the fire in bin the house occupied by his fiancee, Angel West, and their two children, ages 4 and 5.
None of them were hurt in the blaze that roared through the house, kindled by decades-old dry wood in the walls.
The house was the residence of the late Gerald and Lyeullen Daigle.
Alexander decided to buy it and live there to keep it in the family.
His mother, Nannette Alexander, grew up in the house; he spent hours there as a child.
And his kids were going to grow up there also.
But about 2 p.m. Monday that changed, when the young daughter told West that she smelled smoke in the back part of the house.
Speculation was that the fire was electrical in nature, ignited perhaps by faulty or overheated wiring.
