Seven shot at party have zipped lips
Those who were there are saying much to investigators about a shooting that injured seven people early Sunday.
The Woodmen of the World Lodge just outside the city limits was the scene of private party. A fight broke out, then gunfire began.
Seven gunshot victims drove themselves to the hospital to have their non life-threatening injuries treated.
Vermilion Sheriff Mike Couvillon said about 100 people were at the party when the lead started flying.
He said victims and/or witnesses are providing little or no information regarding the shooter or shooters.
Meanwhile, Abbeville police are investigating a shooting that occurred early Sunday morning that officers think could be connected to the club melee.
Police responded to a call of shots fired at 2:59 a.m. after someone reportedly fired multiple rounds into a car parked near Jade’s Lounge at the corner of North Miles Street and Graceland Avenue.
Abbeville Police Department Lt. David Hardy said two people were inside at the time, but neither sustained injuries.
“The investigation revealed that a female subject and a male subject were inside the vehicle,” Hardy said. “Neither subject was struck by any of the rounds.”
Another male subject was reportedly seen fleeing the area on foot before entering a nearby vehicle, which left the scene.
“We are actively seeking information as to who the shooter may be,” Hardy said.
Hardy added that he could not confirm if the shooting had any connection to what happened Saturday night at the Woodmen of the World Hall.
“We believe there may be a connection, but that is not something that we can confirm at this time,” Hardy said.
