Covered batting cage latest upgrade at Bobcats baseball field

Eunice High baseball coach Scott Phillips accepts donations from Shane Frey, left, and Jay Caswell as Stefan Frey looks on.

Over the years, major renovations have changed Eunice High’s baseball field.
The newest addition of a covered batting cage is almost completed and Bobcat head baseball coach Scott Phillips is thrilled with the outcome.
“It protects the nets and equipment from the rain and the sun,” the coach said, “so we won’t have to replace them as often. It will also be shade during the hot summer games.”
“A lot of schools have them and I think it added to our program,” Phillips said. “It helps us be able to do something during bad weather.”
Phillips said it all started with a loan from Kip Bertrand (St. Landry Homestead) and then supporters Shane Frey (Frey Holding Company), attorney Jay Caswell and Keith Fontenot (Elite Communication Systems) and the EHS booster club helped see the dream fulfilled.
“The team will be proud of what they have here,” Phillips said. “We now have a locker room and a wall to surround the field and the covered cages - things that weren’t here when I played.
“I know the kids are ready to jump in and start working,” the coach said.
