The Radio Shack has opened for business in the Westgate Shopping Center. Andy LaFleur is manager.

A two-year associate degree program in law enforcement has been approved by the state for LSU Eunice. Donald Rogers, academic affairs director, said the program will start in January.

CBS Sports commentator Heywood Hale Brown visited Linzay Downs as part of a feature he is doing on dirt track horse racing in small communities.

Official groundbreaking has taken place for the 56-bed addition to Eunice Nursing Home. Allen Carrier is administrator and Louis P. Harrell, Jr. is president.

Management at Air King’s Eunice plant responded to a strike by placing help wanted ads in the newspaper. Strikers want a 25 percent pay increase, Air King is offering 7 percent.

The parish Health Unit tax renewal passed as did the addition of a new half mill to allow services expansion.

Winner’s bracket places in the Salt and Pepper Tennis Tournament were taken by Lillie Courville and Reginald Keller, first; Shirley Fisher and Gerald Wyble, second; and Jackie Sanders and Donald Mayeux, third.

The City Council passed an ordinance making it illegal for anyone to carry an Afro comb within Eunice city limits.

St. Edmund’s football coach Charlie Hayes has resigned to take a similar post at Welsh, where he will succeed Ed Cormier, also formerly of St. Edmund’s.
