Eunice splits district games with OHS
The Eunice High Lady Bobcats held off a pesky Opelousas High team for a 33-24 victory in 4-4A action Friday evening at the Bobcat gym.
Both teams were hampered by offensive ineffectiveness in the early, with the Lady Bobcats holding only a 5-2 lead after one quarter. The Lady Cats (3-6 in district play) pushed its lead to eight points in the second quarter before a buzzer-beating field goal by the Lady Tigers cut the Eunice lead to 16-10 at the half.
The Lady Cats managed to outscore the Lady Tigers by a 7-4 margin in the third quarter to lead 23-14 heading into the fourth quarter. OHS made a run at the Lady Cats in the fourth quarter, cutting the lead to four points with 2:36 left in the game. But the Lady Bobcats would outscore the Lady Tigers by a 5-1 margin the rest of the way to preserve the win.
Fouls hampered both team throughout the contest. Opelousas was whistled for 25 fouls and the Lady Cats were called for fouls on 20 occasions. Neither team really took advantage of their frequent trips to the foul line, however. The Lady Tigers made just eight of 20 from the line, while the Lady Cats went to the line 34 times and converted just 13 times.
Haley Jack led the Lady Cats in scoring with 12 points. Dashaya Vigers and Beulha Bradley scored nine and six, respectively. Skylar Ardoin and Reiah Robinson chipped in with three points apiece.
Destiny Pitre led Opelousas High with 15 points. Ismonia Benard added five points for the Lady Tigers.
OHS 66, EHS boys 47
The Opelousas High Tigers used a 20-point second quarter to pull away from the Eunice High Bobcats on their way to a 66-47 victory.
The Tigers led by only a 15-12 margin at the end of the first quarter, but the Tigers got things rolling in the second quarter to outscore the Bobcats by a 20-11 margin to hold a 35-23 lead at halftime. The Tigers took total control of the game at the beginning of the third quarter with a 13-1 run to increase their lead to 48-24 with 3:20 left in the quarter.
Leading scorer for Opelousas was Terrell Lewis with 15 points.
Halen Jack topped the Bobcats (1-6 in district play) in scoring with 13 points. Malik Poullard and Devon Freeman scored nine and seven points, respectively, for the Cats. Brandon Ndubueze added six points.
Eunice will travel to face Washington-Marion in 4-4A play on Tuesday. The Bobcats will entertain LaGrange on Friday.
