Lady Jays surge past St. Joe’s
St. Edmund scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to break a 2-2 tie and seal a 4-2 win over St. Joe’s of Plaucheville on Monday at Lady Jay Field.
With the win, the Lady Jays remain undefeated at 6-0, while St. Joe’s falls to 3-3.
St. Edmund grabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Heather Bieber reached a fielder’s choice and scored on an errant throw after Baylee Lafleur tripled but was tagged out at home.
The Lady Eagles tied the game in the top of the second when Alexis Barker reached on an error and scored on a hit by Brittany Taylor.
St. Edmund retook a 2-1 advantage in the bottom of the fourth inning, begun when Heather Bieber walked and on a double by Kasey Lafleur.
St. Joe’s tied the game again in the top of the fifth when Sarah Brown walked and scored on a hit by Elizabeth Link.
The Lady Jays grabbed the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth inning when Sydney Thibodeaux was hit by a pitch and Heather Bieber walked to begin the rally.
Courtesy runner Abby Miller advanced to third on passed balls before scoring on a sacrifice fly by Heidi Bieber.
Heather Bieber also scored on the play as the throw home got past the Lady Eagles’ catcher.
St. Joe’s threatened in the top of the seventh inning when Tiffany Knight reached on a fielder’s choice but was left stranded at second base.
Kasey Lafleur earned the win as she struck out 10, walked one and allowed four hits.
Macy Furman suffered the loss as she fanned five,walked two and allowed three hits.
St. Edmund is scheduled to entertain Opelousas High at 4 p.m. today before participating in the Mamou tournament this weekend.
