Eunice attorney Donald L. Mayeux has been apponted to Committee on Catholic Scouting for the Diocese of Lafayette.
Sylvia Frey, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John H. Frey of 240 West Peach, has been awarded a grant for research for a book about the common British soldier during the American Revolution. She is an assistant professor of history at Tulane University.
An $80,000 building permit has been secured for construction of the new Eunice Elementary School.
Eunice voters approved retaining the 5-mill property tax levy that provides about $55,000 annually for street work. The renewal is through 1982.
Matt Vernon and Grady Lowe, both of Eunice, were re-elected to the board of Public Affairs Research Council.
Blair Manuel of Eunice was recognized as outstanding high school senior at the Agri-Business Seminar at USL. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. L.D. Manuel.
The City Council is seeking bids for converting the former Tri-Parish Bank building at Park & Second into the new city library facility. A federal grant will pay 70 percent of the costs.
Senior Cliff Miller set a new St. Edmund Catholic High School record when he soared 12 feet in the pole vault, breaking his two-year-old mark of 11’9”.
Representatives of 10 Acadiana communities, including Eunice, are pushing the state for four-laning of La. 13 from Turkey Creek to the Gulf of Mexico.
A Basile man died when his truck’s brakes failed and it slid into a pit at the Tepetate Oil Field.
The Rev. Henry J. Broussard was ordained to the priesthood in ceremonies at St. Anthony’’s Church. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry J. Broussard, Sr. and a graduate of St. Edmund’s Catholic High School.
Eunice attorney Jack Burson was elected president of the St. Landry Parish Bar Association. He has been in practice here since 1967.
