Louisiana Natural Gas Co. will soon begin laying 189 miles of pipeline from its Tepetate field to Bastrop, to tie in with lines serving the North and East. Cost is $48 million, said Supt. R.S. Worley.
The Rotary Club plans to erect at the corner of Park & 2nd a permanent memorial to city sons killed in World War II.
Melvin Huckaby’s Phillips 66 station has opened at 5th & Laurel. L.M. Reed is area jobber.
By 18 votes, Mamou citizens have implemented a stock law, requiring that livestock be kept off the town streets.
Louisiana-Arkansas Bishop Paul Martin dedicated the Christan Education Building at the Methodist church. The $35,000 annex was built last year. The Rev. E.W. Day is church pastor.
Miss Eugenia LaHaye reigned as the St. Edmund’s May Festival queen. Her escort was Al Guillory.
Grandma Fowler, widow of William and mother of Bryan, is Eunice’s oldest mother at age 98. From her home on South Third she remembers the Civil War (she was 12 when it ended). Her father and brother served in it.
Rodney E. Landreneau, Jr. will receive his doctor of medicine degree from LSU next month.
Jack Stagg, son of Mrs. George Eaton, received his doctor of dentistry degree from Loyola. He will open a Eunice office shortly.
Edward Honeycutt is scheduled to be executed next month for the rape of a Eunice woman. The execution will take place in the parish courthoouse in Opelousas. The victim and her husband will attend.
Hard-surfacing of North 8th Street has been completed from Laurel to the Mamou Highway.
Jerry Guillory, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Guillory, has been elected president of the student body at Southwestern Louisiana Institute in Lafayette.
Chris Duplechin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Francois Duplechin, has been named a Fulbright Scholar from SLI.
L.J. Aucoin has announced the opening of his civil engineering office in the America Legion Home. The U.S. Navy veteran of World War Ii is the son of L.C. Aucoin and the late Mrs. Aucoin.
Bids are being received for construction of two public housing projects totaling 100 residential units. according to Jacque Pucheu, housing authority executive director.
