Bobcats fall short
Some early fielding miscues by Eunice and timely hitting by Notre Dame put the Cats in a 6-0 hole from which they never recovered on their way to a 9-6 defeat.
Two first inning errors by the Cats produced two unearned runs and two more errors in the third inning gave the Pioneers a 6-0 advantage They would add single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.
The Bobcats were limited to just one hit over the first four innings by Pioneer pitching - a single by Jonas Granger in the first inning.
The Cats scored their initial run in the fifth inning when Daniel Stahl doubled, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and scored on Brandon Martel’s infield single.
The Cats added two more runs in the fifth when Zac Guillory doubled and Cade Richard had a single to spark the inning. The Cats added three in the seventh to make it 9-6, but the rally fell short. Granger had a run-scoring single to highlight the Bobcat seventh inning.
Eunice pitching deserved a better fate than the final score. Christian Lejeune worked the first three innings, giving up five hits and only two earned runs. He did not issue a walk and struck out three.
Christian Taylor tossed three innings for the Cats. He gave up three hits and one earned run. He walked one and struck out two.
Jayden Brasseaux worked the seventh inning, retiring the side in order with one strikeout.
