A 21st Century Learning student

Nataysia Jackson, a fourth-grader at Eunice Elementary, listens, learns, and smiles for the camera as Myra Miller, Eunice News Lifestyles Editor, was a guest speaker June 16 during the St. Landry Parish 21st Century Community Learning Center program. A classroom of about 20 Eunice Elementary students listened to Miller’s job duties, a photography lesson and how a newspaper is put together. A question and answer forum was welcomed afterwards. The St. Landry Parish 21st Century Community Learning Centers Program’s purpose is to establish or expand community learning centers that provide students with academic enrichment opportunities along with activities designed to complement the students’ regular academic program. “During the summer along with academics, we also encourage the students to explore their creative side by providing enrichment through many dynamic artistic activities, music and field trips. This summer, in Eunice, we have centers at Eunice Elementary, Highland Elementary and East Elementary,” said teachers LaRhonda Simpson and Michelle Stelly. (Photo by Myra Miller)
