Church Point sweeps Eunice in district opener

Church Point earned a three game sweep over Eunice High in the Diivision III, District 3 opener for both teams Thursday at Lady Bobcat gym.
The Lady Bears (5-7) won 25-26, 25-13, 25-4 over the Lady Cats (0-9).
The two teams battled early for control as Church Point jumped out to a 5-2 advantage in the first match.
Ali Rae Lejeune had three service points to help the Lady Cats take a 9-8 advantage.
Church Point later went on a 4-0 run, aided by kills from Meghan Bearb and Kirsten Stanford.
After Alexia Jason recorded a kill for the Lady Cats to close the margin to 17-12, the Lady Bears went on an 8-0 run assisted by serves from Hannah Stanford and kills by Stanford.
The Lady Cats pulled within seven points, but Church Point’s Cassidy Dailey placed an ace just inside the line to seal the win.
The Lady Cats kept the second game close before Stanford and Dailey led Church Point to a 16-4 advantage.
Eunice went on a 3-0 run, aided by a kill from Justice James to close the gap to 17-6.
The two teams continued to exchange points, but the Lady Bears held onto their comfortable lead.
Kills by James and Jason pulled the Lady Cats closer, 23-12 but a kill by Talia Jones sealed the second-game win for Church Point.
After the Lady Bears pushed for a 4-0 lead in the third match, Eunice fought to close the gap to 5-3.
The Lady Cats’ final point came on a Church Point error at 8-4.
But Church Point then exploded for a 16-0 run to put the game away.
Nine Lady Cat errors along with a kill by Dailey, three kills from James and three aces by Stanford proved to be too much for Eunice to overcome as Church Point sealed the sweep.
Eunice plays at Northwest on Tuesday, while Church Point travels to Crowley.
