Jays fall in Northside tourney
CROWLEY β The St. Edmund Blue Jays dropped four games in the Northside Christian tournament this past weekend.
The Blue Jays opened the tournament with a 70-36 loss to Iota as the Bulldogs held a 39-17 advantage at intermission.
John Ross Guillory led St. Edmund with 16 points, while Cullen Brown added nine points.
Dylan Hebert and Chase Doucet each scored 12 points for Iota, while Connor Story chipped in 11 points.
St. Edmund then dropped a 50-40 decision to Houma Christian.
The Blue Jays trailed 13-12 after the first quarter before the Warriors went on a 10-0 second period run to put the game out of reach.
Guillory led St. Edmund with 18 points and Brown chipped in 10 points.
On Saturday, Ascension Christian earned a 40-26 win over the Blue Jays.
The Lions led 22-18 at intermission before an 18-8 8 run in the second half sealed the win.
Brown led St. Edmund with 16 points.
Paxton Page led the Lions with 16 points.
The Blue Jays closed the tournament with a 66-40 loss to host Northside Christian Academy.
St. Edmund jumped out to a 10-8 first quarter lead before the Warriors responded with an 18-9 second period surge to grab a 26-19 halftime advantage.
After closing the gap to 48-31 after three quarters, the Jays were outscored 21-9 in the final period.
Guillory scored 23 points to lead the Jays.
St. Edmund (0-11) will entertain Kaplan next Monday and Vermilion Catholic on Wednesday.
