Man killed in wreck, police cite impairment and lack of seat belt use
A 74-year-old man died in a two-vehicle wreck at La. 93 and 723 at 3 p.m. Tuesday, a Louisiana State Police Troop I news release reported.
Joseph E. Faul, of Scott, was driving a 1999 Dodge Caravan west on La. 723 and failed to yield for a stop sign at the intersection with La. 93, the report stated. As Faul’s vehicle went through the intersection, it was struck by a northbound 2014 Ford 250, driven by Douglas J. Bourque, 60, of Church Point, police stated.
Faul, who was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and sustained critical injuries, was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, police stated.
Bourque was wearing a seat belt and sustained minor injuries, police stated. Bourque was transported to a local hospital and treated for his injuries.
Troopers suspect impairment was a factor in the crash, police stated. Routine toxicology samples were obtained and will be submitted to the State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
