Flood-affected residents urged to register with FEMA
A FEMA official urged residents affected by the August flooding to register with FEMA.
“We need people to keep in touch with FEMA,” Sharon Karr, of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, said at the Disaster Recovery Center in Eunice.
“Call the 800 number. Make sure they have their case and let us know how we can get into their house now.”
The center is located at 1960 West Laurel Ave., Eunice, at Word Ministries, which was a Walmart store.
Registration is available at the center, but is also by telephone and online.
Karr pointed out that registration and other FEMA information is accessible using a smart phone.
As of Monday morning, 235 people had visited the center in Eunice, Traci Bremner, manager said. About half of the people registered at the center.
The center is staff by eight people from FEMA and two from the Small Business Administration.
Karr emphasized that people should complete the paperwork given to them. In some cases applicants are given information for SBA assistance, which can lead to low-interest loans and other services.
August flood damage is estimated in the millions of dollars in St. Landry Parish.
