BASILE~Louis Joseph LeJeune, 88, of Basile passed away, Wednesday, January 06, 2016, at his home in the loving company of his family.
Visitation for Louis will begin on Friday, January 08, 2016 at 10:00 am until 10:00 pm at Ardoin's Funeral Home, 1210 South Ryan Ave, Basile, LA 70515. A Rosary will be offered at 6:00 pm Friday evening. A Celebration of his life and funeral Services will begin at 8:00 am on Saturday, January 09, 2016, at Ardoin's Funeral Home followed immediately by a Catholic Mass and Burial Services at 11:00 am at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Basile with Father David Hebert , Celebrant. Louis was born December 26, 1927 in Basile to Adolus and Sadie Vidrine LeJeune. He grew up in Basile assisting his father with running their general store in Basile and graduated from Basile High School in 1946. While in high school, Louis was a member and Drum Major of the Basile High School Band. After graduation from high school he enlisted in the United States Navy on January 11, 1946 and was honorably discharged on November 14, 1947 at the rank of Seaman First Class. While in the Navy he deployed to the Asian-Pacific Theater of Operations and served as a musician on board the USS Jason, a resupply and repair ship, and the USS Tausig, an Allen M. Sumner class destroyer. His military awards include the American Theater Campaign Medal, the Asia Pacific Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal.
On May 07, 1952 he married the former Wilda Ardoin Fontenot and upon his death, they had been married for 63 years. Following his service in the Navy, Louis worked in the oil field until her was seriously injured in an oil field related accident. After recovering from his injuries, he earned a living as a self-employed upholsterer and specialized in restoring antique furniture. He also continued to perform as a musician and was a guitarist specializing in one of the things he loved, Cajun Music. He was a member of a large family that lived very near each other and he loved the family gatherings that involved cooking, laughing, and playing ''French Music''. He cherished visiting with his friends, extended family members, his children, grandchildren, his great and great grandchildren.
Louis is survived by wife, WIlda Ardoin LeJeune; his daughter, Jacqueline LeJeune Martin and husband, Leslie G. Martin, Sr., his son, Dolan Ray Fontenot; his grandchildren Ryan LeJeune, Angelle LeJeune Seeley, Jason Pitre, Roxanne Pitre Chaisson, Donna Fontenot Guillory, Jamie Fontenot, Tony Johnson, Otis Johnson, Rachel Johnson Fontenot, Justin LeBleu, Londie Martin, Leslie Martin, Jr., Lisa Martin and thirty five great grandchildren, and twenty seven great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Adolus and Sadie Vidrine LeJeune; his son Ronald LeJeune; his brother Joseph ''D.S.'' LeJeune; and his three sisters, Verdie LeJeune Douget, Eva LeJeune Cavel, and Geneva LeJeune Fontenot.
