Winston Carroll Smith

EUNICE ~ Winston Carroll Smith, formerly of Eunice, was the son of Adam and Winnie Smith. He was born on January 28, 1936 and he passed from this world on Thursday October 1, 2015 at 10:30 PM in Denison, Texas at Texoma Medical Center.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, Gale, Dale and HT “Shrimp” and one sister, Winnie Mae Smith Elchuck of Tucson, Arizona.
Winston “Diggie” attended Acadia Baptist Academy of Eunice for his seventh through 11th grade schooling. He graduated from Eunice High School in 1954, where he excelled in track. While attending SLI, in 1956, he was a participant as a high hurdler in the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans. He graduated in 1960 from Oklahoma Baptist University, where he excelled and had a tremendous track career.
Winston served in the Marine Corps from 1956 – 1958 and was stationed at Twenty Nine Palms in California. He was also a teacher and the girls’ basketball coach at Iota High School.
He has been a Baptist Pastor for 31 years in Louisiana, Texas, Iowa and Oklahoma. He also served in the Gideons International for many years, being a State Officer.
He is survived by his wife, Mary, of Durant, OK, daughter, Shawn Smith Shirey and husband Wayland Shirey of Durant, OK., son, Kris Smith and wife Connie Bourque Smith of New Iberia. 6 grandsons, and 4 great-grandsons and 1 great-granddaughter, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Memorial service will be held Saturday October 10, 2016, 2PM at the Acadia Baptist Center of Eunice.
