Physicals begin LSUE’s athletic year

The clinic was filled with an enthusiastic group of LSU Eunice athletes busy chatting about their upcoming school year.
But there was also a group of medical professionals busy doing more serious work of screening the athletes Wednesday night at Rehab Xcel.
The athletes undergo a basic screening including exams from doctors and therapists.
Doctors helping included Dr. Rhonda Moser, Dr. Ed Graul, Dr. Gregory Richard, Dr. Kayla Fontenot and Dr. Jade Heinen along with Jessilyn Orgain, APRN, FPNC.
Physical therapists Michael Driggs and Lee Miller also helped with the physicals along other Rehab Xcel staff and local nursing students,
“This is an introduction of the medical community to the Bengal athletes,” Driggs said. “This helps them know they can get assistance while they are at LSU Eunice.”
Driggs said the process is required by the NJCAA.
“An overview of their medical history is discussed,” he said. “The doctors look for any issues medically while the physical therapists look for muscular-skeleton problems.”
LSU Eunice athletic director Jeff Willis was quick ot praise the efforts on display during the physicals.
“The physicals provided by the local physicians and Rehab Xcel are a great service by our community,” Willis said.
“To have everyone donate their time and services really means a lot to our programs.
“Our kids get to see the support they have from this community and have always been impressed by it,” Willis said. “I can not say how thankful I am for all those who are involved in pulling this off.”
