Basile runningback Gabe Fontenot gained 214 yards on 17 carries and scored on runs of 26 and 15 yards on the Bearcats’ 34-0 win over North Central.
For his efforts, Fontenot has been selected as the Eunice News Player of the Week for Oct. 4-10.

LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns football team used a 28-point third quarter to break free from a halftime tie and claim a 49-27 victory over Texas State in front of 21,377 Saturday evening at Cajun Field in the Sun Belt Conference opener for both teams.
NEW ROADS – St. Edmund exploded for 42-0 haltime lead as the Blue Jays cruised to a 50-0 win over False River Academy in the District 5-1A opener.
VILLE PLATTE – The Eunice High Bobcats opened District 5-3A play here Friday night with a 34-0 victory over the Ville Platte Bulldogs.
NEW ROADS – The Blue Jays begin the defense of their District 5-1A title at False River Academy Friday in New Roads.
Both St. Edmund (1-4) and False River (2-3) struggled with their non-district schedules that included two common opponents.
