The city of Eunice received a 7 ft. by 14 ft. trailer to be used for debris removal and litter abatement from the St. Landry Parish Solid Waste Commission. The commission is allocated $1,600 a month for a litter abatement program in Eunice, which utilizes city inmates.

A resolution asking for twice-weekly garbage collection in unincorporated areas, or two carts for those residents, was approved by the St. Landry Parish Council’s public works committee.

A plan to automate household garbage collection appears to be headed toward trouble in rural St. Landry Parish.

The new blue trash carts springing up between Eunice and Opelousas, and in Opelousas, are raising concerns about the future of the trash pickup service, said Timmy Lejeune, St. Landry Parish District 11 parish councilman.
