Fire chief, assistant chief dismissed

Shreveport's fire chief and assistant fire chief were fired Thursday.
Chief Ronald Mulford, 50, has been on paid administrative leave since being indicted in June on five counts of malfeasance in office. An internal investigation allegedly revealed he violated administrative policies during his handling of complaints lodged against several firefighters under his command.
Assistant Chief James Thomas Carpenter had also been on paid administrative leave as a result of a June perjury indictment. He also allegedly violated departmental policies.
Mulford is accused of failing to report that an intellectually disabled man was being abused at Fire Station 8 and of trying to conceal the hiring of a prostitute for another mentally challenged man at the same fire station.
Former Shreveport firefighter Billy Glass pleaded guilty Thursday to hiring a prostitute and acting cruelly toward an intellectually disabled man.
